Poetry Week Three 2025 (Very Late) [POETRY]

Yes, I skipped last week. Yes, I am aware. No, I didn’t forget. No, I haven’t given up on writing. The excitement of Easter week and seeing family turned my brain to mush and my dear readers were victims of my procrastination. Will you forgive me?

Day 12

Risk

One more step will be worth it

One more act they’ll never forget

Adrenaline racing

As my heart is chasing

Dreams I never had

For the thrill of being bad

For a moment, a second

Of risk to avoid being fecund

Day 13

Full Marks

Aiming high yet falling short

Start then choose to abort

The top grade out of reach

Do we stop after we seek

Or push through our doubt

Hoping all will work out

And we will stand at last

On pedestal denied in past

Keep swimming, escape the sharks

Do your best, earn those top marks

Day 14

Lost

We haven’t spoke in so long

I know that I have lost you

And despite this sad song

I know it hasn’t cost you

Yet there are times when my heart

Calls out for yours and memories

That though we are apart

Still tend to please

And brighten each day

So while I see you no more

I know what I should say,

“You, I still adore.”

Day 15

Elegy

This last loss, greatest of all

This last leaf, survivor of fall

Now fallen down with first snow

Goodbye to autumn, you must know

Hearts linger with you, spice in the air

Just a remnant of twice at the fair

Where costumes covered our true form

Making us terrors, keeping us warm

As we bid farewell, we know we will see

A shadow of you in the year about to be

Day 16

Fantastic Belief

A young boy prayed

God spoke to him

His love displayed

Yet this was no whim

Part of a plan

To return us all

To one who understands

One we lovingly call

Our Father in Heaven

Who reaches down still

Hoping even the heathen

Will learn to obey his will

And all of this starts

When those deemed too young

Allow the burning in their hearts

To loosen their tongue

Day 17

City

Towers rising toward the sky

Unbreathable air wafting by

Crushed close by strangers

Always aware of dangers

That one cannot quite see

Wait round corners for me

But here we build futures

Here we find structures

That caress the lowest cloud

And make humanity proud

To be trapped with me

In the heart of this city

Day 18

See the Good

Look up there

And you will share

In knowledge

That the edge

Of death is a door

One born before

Took that pain

Shed His blood

Even when rain

Brings torrential flood

He stands ready

To pull you free

The deepest eddy

Can’t have thee

How can you reply

When He says “Don’t deny”?

Open up, speak true

Jesus always loves you
