Poetry Month: Week Five

 April 27, 2024

Trapped Bear

Trapped bear, head inside a honeypot

Very cute, but wise, he is not

So who will help him free his head

A friend, perhaps who is better read?

Dead

Brittle stalks reaching toward the warming sun

Reaching up though apparently long dead

Look again and see life newly begun

Someday soon these limp leaves will gaily spread

And reach toward their neighbor to be one

Awaiting next burst of life from garden bed

In this season we find hope, chance to see

Not all things are as they appear to be

Until the Story Ends

We never forget beginnings

They haunt us while we sleep

But we count them as our winnings

These memories we keep

For voices whisper to us,

“Every story must end.”

But we don’t have to fuss

For if we fight and love and pray

Our love story can continue

Beyond our earthly last day

This story is written by me and you

So let’s not let it end

A Beginning

Open here, where the first page starts

Promising love and broken hearts

In the moment, the end is clear

Two will fall, hold each other dear

But even now, readers feel fear

As characters accept parts

An Ending

The last page closes softly

Reader sets the book aside

Wondering, “Is this just the first?”

Somewhere the author sighs crossly

With nothing more to hide

Because completion is the worst

No author wants the tale to end

The cessation of glorious ride

That slaked a creative thirst

Until book said to this friend,

“Stop! There!”

I know. I know. Partial week. Short post.

And that concludes our last foray into poetry together…

Until I am inspired again. I hope you read something you liked. Please feel free to send accolades and gift cards to Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
