Cat Haikus [POETRY]

Willing paws will shred
The bark on the old oak tree
Before feathers fly

*

A hiss and a growl
Before grey and white fur fly
And snarls rend the air

*

A sweet face rubs yours
As a gentle purr erupts
Savage beast shows love

*

Crouch in the tall grass
Until the rodent goes by
Then tear his world apart

*

Brown wall yields easy
Silent warrior takes the foot
Of bipedal beast

The month could not end without one more poetic post and what could have been better than these cat haikus?

Step Outside [POETRY]

You disagree? Let's step outside
Want to fight me? Step outside
Don't understand? Step outside
Take my hand. We'll step outside

Step outside our small minds
Step outside arbitrary lines
Try to see the way I do
I will try to see more like you

We still won't see eye to eye
But maybe if we really try
We could learn to compromise
Based on truth not ancient lies

So speak truth, listen for peace
One step forward gives new lease
On lives that bring us closer to
People who are not quite like me or you

You Belong [POETRY]

Bonds of blood could not hold as tight
As those in my heart, I thought they might
Fade over time if I could not see your face
But you haunt me still from a distant place
I cannot place the moment you became
Family though we may not share a name
But prayers rise up for you from my lips
My heart weeps with every tear that slips
From your eye to your cheek to your chin
And I wish I could hold you again
And whisper words of comfort and peace
But I fear I shall never release
Another confession of my love for you
But if you feel embraced in all you do
Perhaps it is my soul reaching out
To the family so few know about

Break Through [POETRY]

Break through sweet moonlight
Breaking through trees of night
To touch the soul and bring life
To seeds covered by dark strife
Against darkness that enshrouds hope inside
But with one bloom of moon or sun
Hope blooms anew, life has begun
Which darkness can no longer overtake
Now tears of rain that thirst slake
And faith bursts with hope from the seed
By such a sacrifice, prisoners are freed
To go forth and spread their light
That others may escape the webs of night

Nothing [POETRY]

Nothing of your own
Take this flesh, this bone
Claim this twisted dream
And the piercing scream
Though you cannot feel
The pain that makes this real
And pulls drops of blood
Crimson heart's bud
Profess love you know not
For with lies you bought
A love meant for one who
Dared once to trust you
Whose words you took
And love you forsook...

Take This Rhyme [POETRY]

Take this rhyme to calm your sorrows
Take the time to live tomorrows
In the time that they give you
Love those you love, live for you

Take this rhyme to find your peace
Take this time, you only lease
These moments, so love so deeply
That no one doubts you love completely

Take this rhyme to fill with your words
Take this time to free the herds
Of emotion that threaten to steal your time
So confess your love, take this rhyme

Put Out [POETRY]

You hate my spark, so let's snuff it out
But when you do, you'll think about
The person you killed to make me
Into the one who must fall to a knee
Quell her spirit and forget to breathe
So you can choose to believe
You improved me by quenching the fire
That lit my eyes, flamed desire
Filled every word that turned your head
For the slave you wanted, mourn the dead
Lament each spark you drown
Even the one that drew you to the sound
Of a tempest's laughter
And nothing again will matter
Without my spark to fan your flames
Try to enjoy the shell which remains

Dark thoughts tend to lead to better poetry, but it is hard to think dark thoughts when someone adorable is smiling up at you. Know what I mean?

Reach [POETRY]

I cannot reach the mountain top
For thin air makes my breath stop
But as I pause to see the dipping sun
As nature's fireworks are spun
Across cotton clouds to please my eyes
For now,I know this climb will suffice
Until I gain the strength I need
To reach the highest peak, be freed
By wisdom already given to those before
And I shall strive to learn more and more..

Sacrament [POETRY]

This bread, this water
Heaven's son, heaven's daughter
Let prayer make us clean anew
This sacrament blessed for you
So renew covenants made
And remember the role played
To make you better, heal your heart
Help you choose the better part

Clearly my poetry can be influenced by my day. Today, I got to listen to General Conference, so my brain overflows with deep thoughts. Sorry this one was so short.

Welcome April: National Poetry Month [POETRY]

This morning brought reminders that this is the month to celebrate poetry. From haikus to epic stories told in verse, this is the month to delve deeper and find the dramatic flare of the poet. Will you accept the challenge? Will I find time to post every day?

Suffer Fools

Suffer fools, who make a joke,
Those who must annoy, prod, and poke
And make mirth from precious things
And wish to tug your heart strings
Until they snap and rip asunder
The walls that hold back the thunder
Of midnight wails and twilight cries
That left unchecked, drown our eyes,
Sap our strength and make us weak
Yet, in the end, fools must follow the meek

I may have been adversely affected by something I saw in the world today. Do you ever wonder about National Poetry Month starting with a day full of practical jokes?
